A tour of historic and modern Krung Thep, or 'City of Angels' as Bangkok is
known to the Thai people. The programme includes a visit to Wat Jetuphon
(better known as Wat Pho), the oldest of the city temples situated opposite the
Grand Palace. The temple is renowned as Thailand's oldest university and there
are instructive murals illustrating the finer points of Thai massage which is
still taught and practised here. The highlight is the 46 metre long and 15
metre high statue of a reclining Buddha. Also included is a visit to Wat
Traimitr, located near to Bangkok's main railway station. The temple houses a
5.5 tonne gold Buddha, which was discovered when it's plaster casing broke
whilst being transported to its new home from the port area. The tour
terminates via a visit to a Jewelry retailer (Royal Lapidary).

Depart to Ratchaburi province, for the village of Damnernsaduak, about 110km from Bangkok. First visit a coconut plantation to see harvesting and handicrafts, then on to Damnernsaduak, surrounded by a network of khlongs (canals) that radiate out into the orchards and gardens in the surrounding countryside. Daily, local farmers gather fruits, vegetables and prepared dishes and trade them along the canals to the drop off point at the market wharf. Seasonal fruits on offer include mango, jackfruit, rambutan, the notoriously pungent durian and many more. Optional boat hire is available at the market wharf to explore the narrow canals. Further optional visits include a Snake Farm, an Elephant ride, and the Royal Thai Handicrafts workshop. On return to Bangkok the tour terminates via a visit to the Gems Gallery.

At around sunset take a local ferry crossing the Chao Phraya River. Once across the river, ride quiet back roads to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn. At night Wat Arun is spectacularly lit and free of the throngs of tourists who flock here daily. After enjoying the quiet ambiance of the temple ride along a river side track passing a Chinese temple, Christian church, and another Buddhist temple. Crossing back over the river by bridge, we stop at the flower market which is at it's busiest at this time of night. Next stop is Wat Pho, another spectacularly lit temple. The highlight here are the four burial stupas of the first four kings of the Bangkok kingdom. Ride past the Grand Palace to Sanam Luang which comes to life in the evening with an impromptu market. There's lots of trinkets for sale laid out on simple mats - a true flea market. From here return to the the Khao San Road area which is just starting to build up for another big night out for the backpackers.

The Grand Palace was established at the same time as Bangkok in 1782, by the
first king of the ruling Chakri dynasty. Each subsequent monarch has added
their own contribution to the complex, so that it represents the full range of
royal architecture of the Rattanakosin (Bangkok) period. Some of the buildings
represent traditional Thai themes, whilst others have distinct European
features. Within the palace grounds one can find the temple commonly called Wat
Phra Kaew, which houses the small but holy figure of the Emerald Buddha
(actually fashioned from a type of jadeite). The figure was discovered in a
Chiang Rai temple in 1436 and has travelled since to Lampang, Chiang Mai, Luang
Prabang and Vientiane. The tour concludes with a visit to a Jewelry retailer
(Royal Lapidary).

You will visit Orchid Farm, it is a tourist stopping point with a beautiful orchid farm and butterfly farms. Your tour will terminate after a shopping stop at the Inter Continental Hotel.
