Learn about the brewing industry in the Pacific Northwest. Seattle is home to many of the 82 breweries in Washington State. Many of these breweries are "micro" or "craft" breweries, producing less than 20,000 barrels per year. We will highlight several of these breweries on our tour through Seattle, learning about the beer-brewing craft and the history of Washington breweries. We will also enjoy the sights of Seattle, including the historic Pioneer Square, Space Needle, Pike Place Market, Olympic Sculpture Park, scenic vistas of mountains, lakes and the city, and vibrant neighborhoods. Our experienced guides will provide interpretation of the natural and cultural history of Seattle throughout the afternoon.

Our Woodinville Wine Trail Experience will take you on a tour of four of Woodinville's most acclaimed boutique wineries in an intimate and relaxed setting. Each visit will dig a little deeper to explore the local winemaking history and the art of viticulture. One of the featured wineries is the "little yellow tasting room" of Brian Carter Cellars. This is the first winery in Washington State to focus exclusively on an array of handcrafted European-style blended wines. Enjoy tasting and learning about these unique Washington wines in a relaxed and casual atmosphere. We may visit Northwest Totem Cellars, where guests have the rare experience of wine tasting in the winemaker's very own kitchen! This family-owned winery shares their handcrafted wines as well as their extensive knowledge of the wine making process. Be treated to a visit to DeLille Cellars and enjoy their award winning wines while taking in the stunning architecture of their traditional "chai" styled winery or in the comfort of their new tasting room. At JM Cellars enjoy tasting their wines fireside before touring the cellar room. We may even be able to taste right from the barrel! Finish your visit with an interpretive nature walk through the on-site native wetland. Enjoy one-of-a-kind wines at the tasting room of Hollywood Hill Vineyards, the only winery with a vineyard in Woodinville.

Cupped between the jagged Olympic Mountains to the west and the volcanic peaks of the Cascade Range to the east we head for the tallest peak of them all, Mount Rainier, standing at 14,411 feet. This escape offers ample opportunities for adventure, exploration, learning, and just plain having fun! The "mountain" is an active volcano encased in over 35 square miles of snow and ice, surrounded by old growth forest and stunning wildflower meadows. Old and new growth forests, lakes, waterfalls and river valleys connected to Glaciers are just a few of the sights we will see. We will take out the binoculars and spot for birds and wildlife, marmots, coyotes, elk, deer, fox and black bear roam the mountainside. Your naturalist mountain guide will lead you out on a short hike or snowshoe along the Nisqually Vista trail or possibly something a little more challenging. Remember to take a photo, but also make sure to take a deep breath of fresh alpine air, bask in the moment and soak up the dramatic scenery. We will end our escape by descending down the road to where the parks roots began in Longmire. Keep your eyes peeled for deer in the meadows making their late afternoon journey to the rivers edge.

The Olympic Peninsula is a microcosm of Northwest ecosystems! Here you find remote beaches littered with tide-scoured cedar logs alongside the country's oldest forests and one of the state's most dramatic mountain ranges. The options are endless, and your senses will never rest. The Peninsula harbors some of the greatest true wilderness left in the contiguous United States, including a lush temperate rain forest. Sixteen species of plants and animals evolved here and nowhere else. We will catch sight of a waterfall or two as well as take a few short interpretive nature walks. Along the scenic loop is the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge. Your naturalist guide will lead you out onto the sand spit that hooks out into the strait to an old lighthouse, spotting for birds all along the way. In Spring and Fall thousands of waterfowl and shorebirds descend on the shallow waters protected by the spit! Next we climb up to Hurricane Ridge, a mountain citadel that puts you at the edge of the parks exceptionally jagged peaks. We watch for wildlife, too; Olympic marmots and black-tailed deer often show up, and black bear are fairly common. From the meadows at the summit take in a superb 360-degree view that embraces the surrounding mountains, the strait, the San Juan Islands.

Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. Stopping to take photos along the way your naturalist will present dramatic evidence to just how well the ecosystem is recovering and the impressive ongoing reforestation project. Arriving into the blast-zone, just 5 miles from the crater at the Johnston Ridge Observatory we take in some stunning views into the steaming volcano. Your naturalist will share the magic of the geological events surrounding the 1980 eruption through a variety of stories, facts and walks. Experience how volcanoes are monitored and discover how Mount St. Helens has taught us new answers to old mysteries. The Center's state-of-the-art interpretive displays and theater magically portray the sequence of geologic events that transformed the landscape and opened up a new era in the science of monitoring an active volcano and forecasting eruptions. Read amazing eyewitness accounts from eruption survivors. We embark on short walk on the Eruption Trail and learn how the eruption shaped the surrounding landscape. On the return, we experience the Hummocks Trail, the largest landslide in recorded human history, in Coldwater Lake Recreation Area to see first hand how the environment was left to respond naturally to the eruption.
